Diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition that becomes apparent when the body cannot effectively process glucose, its main source of energy.

This course describes the pathophysiology and progression of diabetes, including a description of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. It covers the risk factors and disease prevalence, tests and guidelines used to diagnose diabetes and insulin resistance, the complications that occur for long-term diabetes, and the non-pharmacological approaches and the agents currently used to treat type 2 diabetes, including insulin treatment.
