eCME - Continuing Medical Education (CME), Haemostasis, role of thrombin in blood coagulation

 Haemostasis

Haemostasis is the process by which theHaemostasis - fibrinolysis, blood coagulation
body stops blood loss whenever a vessel
is severed or ruptured. This process
involves the formation of a loose platelet
plug at the site of injury followed by blood coagulation to form a stable fibrinous clot (thrombus).

This course provides an overview of haemostasis, the role of platelets in blood coagulation, and the coagulation system. It also explains the sequence of events in haemostasis, the central role of thrombin in blood coagulation, the steps in fibrinolysis, and the commonly used coagulation assays.
